## Should I fly Delta One or Polaris Business Class?

Delta One wins on privacy: its A350-900 and A330-900neo suites have sliding doors, while most Polaris seats are still doorless outside United's new Elevated 787-9. United Polaris wins on lounges (six Polaris Lounges vs four Delta One Lounges), route depth and award availability. Contracted shoulder-season London fares run $2,400-$2,900 on Delta One and $2,500-$3,000 on Polaris round-trip, so aircraft and schedule should decide.

- Delta One Suite: sliding door on A350-900 and A330-900neo
- Polaris: doors only on new Elevated 787-9; classic seat is doorless
- Lounges: 6 Polaris Lounges vs 4 Delta One Lounges
- London fares: $2,400-$2,900 Delta One vs $2,500-$3,000 Polaris

## Which to pick

- **Pick Delta One when**: a closing door matters and you can book an A350-900 or A330-900neo departure, you start from a Delta hub such as Atlanta, New York JFK, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis or Seattle, or you are protecting a tight onward connection and want the best on-time record in North America. Check the aircraft first: a 767 on the same route means no door.
- **Pick United Polaris when**: you depart from Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco or Los Angeles and want a sit-down Polaris Lounge meal before boarding, your destination is one Delta does not serve nonstop, or you plan to pay with MileagePlus saver awards rather than dynamic SkyMiles pricing.
- **Pick the Elevated 787-9 when your route has it**: United's Polaris Suite and Polaris Studio, both with sliding doors, fly San Francisco to Singapore and London, with Houston to Tokyo, Sydney and Sao Paulo scheduled from late October 2026. On those flights Polaris matches Delta One on privacy, and the Studio adds a 27-inch screen and a buddy seat for dining together. Equipment swaps happen, so confirm the aircraft on the written quote.

## The seat: Delta's doors vs United's new Studio

Delta introduced the Delta One Suite on the A350-900 in 2017 and also flies it on the A330-900neo: a staggered 1-2-1 layout with a sliding door and direct aisle access from every seat. The bed runs about 76-77 inches on the A350-900 and 79-80 inches on the A330-900neo. Delta says it flies more suites than any other US airline, and a next-generation suite with a bed more than 3 inches longer and a 24-inch screen arrives on the A350-1000 in early 2027.

Classic Polaris is a 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone seat on the 787s and 777s (1-1-1 on the 767s) with direct aisle access, a bed of about 77-78 inches, and no door. United's answer is the Elevated 787-9: 56 Polaris Suites and 8 Polaris Studios, all with sliding doors, flying long-haul since April 2026. The doors stayed locked until FAA approval in August 2026. The Studio adds a 27-inch screen and a buddy seat for dining together, but the Elevated jets are still a small slice of the fleet.

Both airlines sell one fare across very different cabins. On Delta, the 767s and the older A330-200/300s fly doorless Delta One; a planned retrofit will add suites with doors to the A330s over time. On United, thinner international routes can see a 757 that is not Polaris at all. The aircraft type on your quote matters more than the brand name.

## Lounges, Wi-Fi and the new basic fares

United has the bigger flagship lounge footprint: six Polaris Lounges at Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, with a la carte dining, showers and quiet rest areas. Delta One Lounges are newer and fewer: New York JFK (the largest, with a full-service brasserie), Los Angeles, Boston and Seattle, with Atlanta planned for 2028. Away from those cities, Delta One flyers get a Sky Club and Polaris flyers a United Club.

Wi-Fi currently favors Delta: it is already free for SkyMiles members on most long-haul international flights. United's free Starlink service for MileagePlus members reached its first widebody in June 2026, with nearly 60 widebodies due this year and the whole widebody fleet by summer 2027, so that gap should close.

Both airlines now sell a stripped-down Business fare in select markets, with the same lie-flat seat. Basic Polaris (since April 2026) charges for seat selection, includes one checked bag, allows no changes and swaps the Polaris Lounge for a United Club. Delta's Basic Business assigns seats only after check-in and keeps lounge access only through January 18, 2027. Same seat, fewer perks: always ask which fare tier a quote is.

## Price and miles: what each actually costs

Published round-trip fares on New York-London run about $4,200-$5,800 in peak season on both airlines. As an accredited agency we book both through contracted fares, which typically price below published: in shoulder season, JFK-LHR Delta One regularly lands at $2,400-$2,900 round-trip and EWR-LHR Polaris at $2,500-$3,000. The two usually sit within $100-300 of each other, so aircraft and schedule should decide, not the brand.

On miles, United is usually the easier redemption. MileagePlus saver Polaris awards run about 70,000-95,000 miles one-way with no fuel surcharges on United metal, and Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt points transfer 1:1. Delta's dynamic SkyMiles pricing frequently tops 300,000 miles round-trip for international Delta One, though partner programs such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club often price the same seats lower. When award prices are inflated, a cash fare is usually the better value.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which US airline has the best Business Class?

In 2026 the aircraft matters more than the airline. Delta One has the most US suites with sliding doors (A350-900 and A330-900neo) and the strongest on-time record. United Polaris has the most flagship lounges (six) and adds doors only on its new Elevated 787-9s (San Francisco to Singapore and London, Houston to Tokyo from October 24, 2026). American's Flagship Suite, also with a door, flies on the 787-9P, the A321XLR and newly retrofitted 777-300ERs, but most of its widebodies still have older doorless seats. Check the aircraft on your date, then compare price.

### Is Delta One better than United Polaris?

On the seat, usually yes: Delta One Suites on the A350-900 and A330-900neo have sliding doors, and most Polaris seats do not. United Polaris is better on flagship lounges (six vs four), US-international route depth and award availability, and its new Elevated 787-9 adds doors and the Polaris Studio on a growing list of routes. For most travelers, the specific aircraft on the date you fly decides it.

### Which has better lounges, Delta One or Polaris?

United has more of them: Polaris Lounges at Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Delta One Lounges are at New York JFK, Los Angeles, Boston and Seattle, with Atlanta planned for 2028. Both serve sit-down a la carte dining. If you depart from one of Delta's four cities, the Delta One Lounge is excellent; from anywhere else, Polaris has the wider reach.

### How much is Delta One vs Polaris?

Published fares on New York-London run about $4,200-$5,800 round-trip in peak season on both. Contracted shoulder-season fares typically land at $2,400-$2,900 round-trip for Delta One JFK-LHR and $2,500-$3,000 for Polaris EWR-LHR, usually within $100-300 of each other. Both airlines now also sell basic Business fares with fewer perks, so compare the fare tier as well as the price.

### Does United Polaris have doors like Delta One Suites?

Only on United's new Elevated 787-9, which carries 56 Polaris Suites and 8 Polaris Studios with sliding doors. It began long-haul flying in April 2026, and the doors were activated after FAA approval in August 2026. The rest of the Polaris fleet (787s, 777s and 767s) uses the classic doorless reverse-herringbone seat. On Delta, doors are on the A350-900 and A330-900neo, not the 767s.

### Is it better to use miles for Delta One or Polaris?

Usually Polaris. MileagePlus saver awards run about 70,000-95,000 miles one-way with no fuel surcharges on United metal, and Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt points transfer 1:1. Delta's own SkyMiles pricing is dynamic and often exceeds 300,000 miles round-trip on international Delta One, although Virgin Atlantic Flying Club often prices the same seats lower.

### What is the difference between Basic Polaris and Delta Basic Business?

Both are the cheapest tier of each airline's Business cabin, with the same lie-flat seat as full fares. Basic Polaris, launched in April 2026, charges for seat selection, includes one checked bag, allows no changes and gives United Club rather than Polaris Lounge access. Delta's Basic Business, on sale since July 2026, assigns seats only after check-in and includes lounge access only through January 18, 2027.
